Background
Chlamydia and gonorrhea are the most frequently reported sexually transmitted bacterial infections (STIs) in Canada. Most people with a chlamydia infection and 50% of people with a gonorrhea infection have no symptoms. In response to increasing rates among Ottawa’s young men and women aged 14 to 29, Ottawa Public Health developed this innovative campaign to encourage testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea to control and reduce the spread of these infections. The “GET TESTED. Why not?” website is the first of its’ kind in Canada.
This site includes a mandatory screening tool, a requisition form that can be downloaded and taken to one of many laboratories across the city for chlamydia and gonorrhea testing, a texting service that promotes sexual health messages and links to local resources and services.
